Sixth graders will begin the year reviewing the building blocks of music and understanding the relationship between printed musical symbols and their auditory representation. General Music class provides students with varied and engaging units of various styles of music and musical topics. Students will have the opportunity to sing and play instruments, learn about African Percussion instruments, study voice science, and develop their appreciation for music. Students will learn more about music history, instrument families, and music composition so that they can streamline the information into their own creation. Students will learn how to explore a music technology program called Quaver that will allow them to create their own musical ideas on several different platforms.
Quaver Music In Sixth Grade General Music students are able to explore music history, theory, and literacy through Quavermusic.com; an interactive virtual world that gives your child the freedom to create, explore, and learn about music in a safe, age-appropriate world they will love. Teachers use QuaverMusic.com to distribute assignments and reinforce lesson objectives with musical games and quests. The site is free to students at home or in the classroom. Sixth grade consists of engaging group projects that encourage skills in feedback and critical thinking, by incorporating world music, composition, improvisation, and music technology. You can view our 6th Grade Course Guidelines here and access the Quaver Website.
