Delaware Children's Honor Choir

Please read ALL of the Information CAREFULLY before signing up for an audition slot!

for Before signing up for the audition, students MUST be able to be available to be in attendance for the entirety of BOTH days of the event (March 13th & March 14th, 2020... NO EXCEPTIONS will be allowed!) Tardiness or missing any part of the rehearsal will result in being dismissed from the Honor Choir. Students will work on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5:45-8:30pm and on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 9:15-4:30pm. The festival concert will take place at 4:00pm. The event will be held at Newark High School.
* PLEASE NOTE: Many times this weekend coincides with the Caravel Scholarship testing as well as Odyssey of the Mind. Please double check to see if these things may be a conflict for you BEFORE signing up to audition!

Students wanting to participate must sign up for an audition time with Mrs. Busovsky by January 3rd, 2020. ONLY 14 STUDENTS CAN BE ACCEPTED FROM EACH APPLYING SCHOOL FOR 2020!!!

The 2020 Guest Conductor

We are delighted to announce the 2020 Delaware ACDA Children’s Honor Choir Festival to be held on March 13th & 14th, 2020 at Newark High School. Our guest conductor this year will be Christy Elsner. Ms. Elsner is the founder and artistic director of of the Allegro Children's Choral program in Kansas City, Missouri. She laughs loudly, and often, and is known to experiment with all sorts of crazy and unique teaching methods. Christy truly believes the bar of excellence can always be raised and expects her Allegro students to pursue greatness in all facets of their lives, not just in music! Christy’s career highlights include Brio’s SWACDA performances in Dallas and St. Louis, the 2012 Brio White House performance and private performance for President and Mrs. Barack Obama, prepping and watching the yearly performances at the Kauffman Center with the KC Symphony. As an active clinician for children’s, youth, and treble choirs, she enjoys giving workshops on innovative rehearsing and is honored to conduct many state, regional, and national honor choirs. more information visit Ms. Elsner's Webpage:

2020 Audition Material & Guidelines

Students should learning the song 'How Can I Keep From Singing'. Students should use the sheet music provided in the pdf and practice by using the 'How Can I Keep From Singing' practice track. Students do not need to memorize the song and can use the lyrics for their scheduled audition. Students will need to be able to sing the song using the 'How Can I Keep From Singing' accompaniment track to demonstrate that they can sing the song without assistance. Students will be evaluated using the rubric provided below. Please know that the song has 'a cappella sections' where there is no piano parts. The practice track has piano pitches and a singer to assist students in learning the piece. Do not panic when their are large pauses in the accompaniment track.
