Mr. Ross Forney is a 2015 graduate of Caravel Academy and a 2020 graduate of the University of Delaware's School of Music. His degree is in Instrumental Music Education with a minor in Vocal Performance. This is Mr. Forney's first year teaching, and he currently serves in Dana Davis's usual role as the Middle School General Music Teacher and EEC Specials Teacher while she handles EEC Remote Learners. Information about these classes can be found under Mrs. Davis's page. Upon the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, Mr. Forney will teach various music classes- vocal, instrumental, and general- in the Middle and Upper School.
Personally:
Mr. Forney lives in Elkton, Maryland on a small farm with goats, pigs, chickens, and his two dogs, Pikachu and Tiva. He loves to sing, play brass instruments, enjoy comedy, and watch documentaries to learn about anything he can. He dreamed of being an actor and comedian in high school, but went on to study medicine and physics before finally deciding to be a music teacher. He is so happy to be back home teaching at the school he has always loved, but will always have a dream of being a standup comic. Hopefully he can practice by bringing laughter, as well as music, to every classroom.
Teaching Philosophy:
Mr. Forney's philosophy is centered around student ownership of learning. Every student should not only have an interest in what he or she is studying, but should have an active role in acquiring and retaining new information. Student leadership, independent study, and class-wide discussion all play a part in this goal. Mr. Forney is dedicated to being the kindest teacher around, and knows the only educator students can learn from is one they trust and respect. Most importantly, Mr. Forney acts as a positive role model, encouraging students to develop both their artistic and emotional maturity.
