Delaware All-State Junior Chorus is open by audition to any 7th and 8th grade public, private or parochial student in the State of Delaware who participates in his or her school choir. For students to be eligible, the teacher/director of the qualifying ensemble must be a member of DMEA. Every year approximately 350 students audition for the choir and between 100 to 150 students are selected to participate. A guest conductor is brought in to work with the students and a concert is given following two days of intense rehearsal. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to meet students from other schools, learn about what other choirs in the state are doing and work with a guest conductor who will no doubt bring another perspective to the choral art. 

If your child is accepted into the chorus, attendance at every rehearsal for the full rehearsal time, as well as attendance at the concert is mandatory. Please refer to the DMEA All-State Operations Manual (DMEA website) as well as the DMEA All-State Contract (All-State application) for detailed regulations.
Important Dates and Locations:
Applications MUST be to Mrs.B by Tuesday, October 18, 2022 so that she can get a check from the Music Boosters for all auditioning students and take the forms to Dr. Lamey to sign!

• November 16-30, 2022 - Submission of Materials through Submittable
• November 30, 2022 - Deadline for submission of audition videos by 11:59 PM
• Posting of results will occur on or after December 15, 2022
• February 23-24, 2023 - Rehearsals 9:00 AM-4:00 PM

• February 25, 2023 - Rehearsal 1:00 PM; Concert at 4:00 PM

Students should learn the vocal part they wish to audition for; the audition cut is clearly marked in the music. Please note that in measure 13 and measures 23-26, basses may sing whichever octave feels most comfortable.  In measures 18-19 the word “whoame” is pronounced “home.”
Students should learn the vocal part they wish to audition for. They will prepare only this excerpt for the audition. Students will sing their voice part with a track containing the vocal parts excluding the voice part they are auditioning for. The audition tracks are labeled “Audition”, and the ones labeled “Practice” are for the student to rehearse with on their own. Please use the “Audition” tracks for the video of the audition.

Students will be assessed in the following categories: Tone Quality, Pitch Accuracy/Intonation, Rhythmic Accuracy, Diction, Expression/Style.   

How to Prepare:

Mrs. Busovsky offers rehearsal time during select H period until the audition.  Attendance at H period rehearsals are not required however, the more you attend the more prepared you will be! Please utilize the link above to learn your music. When you are ready to record your audition, you can set up a time to record it with Mrs. Busovsky. All auditions MUST be submitted no later than November 30th. Please be mindful of my schedule. I can no wait until the last minute to record and submit your audition.
