We are so happy that you have chosen to be part of the best band in the land! Below you will find some info about uniforms, equipment, etc. that you will be responsible for during the marching band season. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the things that you need to do during the season so that we look our best when we hit the field.
All band members will be fitted for a uniform during band camp.Band uniforms consist of a jacket, bibbers (pants), hat (or beret if in percussion), gauntlets (except percussion), and gloves (I have fingerless gloves for clarinets). If at any time you need to be refitted (like you grew two inches and you need a different size), please let Mr. Forney or me know so we can get you refitted.
You are responsible for getting your uniform (and hat box) out of the closet before each game/competition and returning it to the closet in the garment bag at the end of each game/competition. Jackets and bibbers MUST be hung up on the provided hanger neatly so that your uniform looks good the next time you take it out. Hats should be returned to their hat boxes. If you need help with this, please let me know
Shoes should be placed in the back pocket of the garment bag. This keeps all the mud, dirt, etc. from getting on the rest of your uniform.
You are responsible for keeping your uniform clean! You are allowed to eat with your uniform bibbers (pants) on, but please refrain from eating with your jacket on. If you spill something on your uniform or get crumbs or anything else on it, you are responsible for cleaning it.
Uniforms need to be dry-cleaned, they cannot be washed in the washing machine. If you are asked to take your uniform home to get it cleaned (which sometimes happens if we have a particularly hot day or get rained on), please do so ASAP so that you have it cleaned and ready for the following week.
Please dry-clean and return your uniform to the band room at the end of the marching band season. When we are done with football games and competitions, you will have until Winter Break to return your uniform, cleaned and in your garment bag; after that, I will be contacting you to return it. If it is not returned by the end of the school year, a fee may be charged and you may have your report card held until it is returned.
You will need to purchase black socks that cover your lower leg so that no skin can be seen when wearing your socks and bibbers. Many band members keep a spare pair of socks in their garment bag in case they forget to bring a pair to school on a game/competition day.
You may also wish to purchase thermal underwear to wear under your uniform when it gets cold. Sweatshirts are generally too bulky to wear under the uniform, but CAN be worn after competing or on the bus once jackets can come off.
Hair should be neat and out of your face. Those with longer hair may wish to braid it or put it in a style that fits inside the hat. If you need help with this, please let me know.
